Wage increases in Erie County are outstripping the national growth rate, according to a new report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Workers in Buffalo and nearby towns earned an average of $893 per week during the first quarter of this year, as reported in the latest installment of BLS’s Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages. The tech industry’s unemployment rate hit 2.4 percent in August, a slight dip from 2.9 percent in July, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In the overall U.S. labor market, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.9 percent. Not technology segments gained jobs, however. While technology consulting racked up 6,100 new positions in August, for example, computer and electronic manufacturing lost 700 jobs.
